SMALL BIZ LIFE - HOME OFFICE

For us owning a small business has been a "learn as you go" process. We have been pretty fortunate so far because everything always manages to fall into place at the right time. Since the start, we have kept our office in our home and our print/production studio separate. When we were mainly doing small retail orders it worked for us pretty well except that our desk was right next to our couch and the rest of our shipping and packing materials were just spread everywhere in our living space.

It looked nice but didn't give any separation at all between work and life. (Photos by our favorite, Noelle Ann Photography)

When we bought our house we finally were able to create a dedicated office space complete with a chalkboard wall and space to ship retail orders. Although its a work in progress, having the separation has been great and we are not able to keep everything together as well as leave our living room for living!

We've learned so much over the last few years and although its such a small thing, we love having an office in our home! Plus we were able to buy a house this year which we're pretty thrilled about.

Hoping to continue sharing more of our small business experiences!

NSS 2015 FOLLOW-UP

As we are busy packing orders and still getting caught up from the Stationery Show last month, I thought I would share a few of the iPhone photos we took of our booth set-up. We got some great feedback on both our products and our booth and we have already started planning for next year! Also, check out more shots of our booth on Oh So Beautiful Paper's NSS round-up posts.

First up, our NSS mailer that went out to retailers before the show featured a Secret Paper Society theme with a couple custom temporary tattoos.

We brought a small team with us to help with set-up and to help give us breaks here and there during the show. It was awesome to have so much help for set-up and tear-down.

It took us two days to get everything up and ready to go but we were really pleased with how everything turned out.

Blake, who planned and built the entire booth mostly himself.

We used chalk to draw out the images for each section.

And our new business cards featuring Blake the Snake and Queen Irene.

CREATING OUR BRAND

Since opening for business in beginning of 2012, Sparkvites has grown from a weddings only design shop, to a card manufacturer and letterpress print shop. With expanding our offerings to include Blake's hand-drawn illustrations on everything from our cards, to address stamps, and an all new take on custom wedding stationery we have finally found our voice and couldn't be more proud of how far we have come!

A look at our first attempt at branding when we opened for business. We quickly learned that it just didn't fit the vision we had for the entire brand of Sparkvites.

The update of our logo and website does a better job to support our brand and the wide variety of hand-drawn cards and stamps we have added.

Our custom wedding stationery has evolved also with the addition of hand-drawn designs. This makes a couple's invitations even more unique to them and we love working with couples on their design, along with printed finished designs by hand on our Chandler & Price press.
